Re: VJ Day
My Grandad fought in the far east and then was moved onto the pacific to help out the US cleaning up the Island hopping... pride of place is the photos my Nan gave me of him in his army days... him and his mates in the regimental Rugby team... sitting on board a DUKW... in the regimental concerts (think it aint half hot mum) the phot0's of him before he got shipped out he was strapping bloke... came back half the size and he was one of the lucky ones that never got captured ... and he never ever put that weight back on... Nan said he never ever spoke about the times he saw action... just the fun times he had... he also refused to go to reunions... my Nan always regretted that she never pushed him to go... but he was always a stubborn sod... he just wanted to forget... where as his brother (my Gt Uncle) was the total opposite.. para .... saw action in North Africa and Normandy and after the war joined the SAS to fight in Malaya ... he loved a reunion and was only at ease with his old mates.... and he told a great story!!

bless em all
